Punto Caliente in Benejúzar: the restaurant you go to for lunch… and end up wanting to spend the whole day at

There are restaurants where you simply go to eat.

You arrive.
You order.
You eat.
You pay.
You leave.

And then there are the places where you turn up thinking:

“We’ll just grab a quick bite.”

…and three hours later you’re still there, wondering why on earth you didn’t bring your swimming costume. 😂

Punto Caliente, in Benejúzar, definitely belongs in that second category.

And that’s exactly why I wanted to tell you about it on Casa Costa.

Because this restaurant isn’t just about what’s on your plate.

It’s the place.

The atmosphere.

The terrace.

The pool right next door.

The peace and quiet.

And that feeling of being somewhere else entirely, when you’re actually only a few minutes from the villages of the Vega Baja.

Not the kind of place you stumble upon 🌴

The first thing to know is that Punto Caliente isn’t a restaurant you’ll spot while wandering around the centre of Benejúzar.

You have to know it’s there.

And that’s part of its charm.

You leave the village streets behind, head up towards the sports and leisure area, and suddenly you’re somewhere much greener.

And there it is…

restaurant, terrace, pool, outdoor space, trees…

The scene is set.

Personally, this is exactly the kind of place I love discovering here.

The slightly hidden spots.

The ones where somebody has to tell you:

“Go there. Trust me.”

Because very often, those are the ones you remember.

Yes, there’s a pool! 🏊‍♀️

And obviously, that’s THE detail that changes everything.

Punto Caliente is right next to Benejúzar’s municipal swimming pool.

And in summer, that turns a simple lunch into a proper day out.

You can come for lunch, then enjoy the pool and spend a relaxed afternoon there.

The perfect summer plan: eat, relax, have a swim.

And with kids…

honestly?

It’s the kind of plan that works.

Because a restaurant where the grown-ups can eat well AND the children know there’s a pool waiting for them afterwards…

funnily enough, everyone becomes a lot more cooperative. 😂

“Finish your plate, then it’s pool time.”

There you go.

Sometimes parenting really is that simple. 😂

The kind of place where you take your time ☀️

What I particularly love about Punto Caliente is that you never feel you have to eat quickly and leave.

The setting makes you want to slow down.

You sit down.

You eat.

You chat.

You have a coffee.

You look at the pool.

And then you stay a bit longer.

Very Spanish, really.

Here, a weekend lunch can easily become an activity in its own right.

And after several years of living in Spain, it’s something I’ve completely adopted.

In Belgium, I was much more used to:

restaurant → done → off we go.

Here?

You sit down at 2 pm and nobody seems remotely worried when it’s 5 o’clock. 😂

And honestly…

I really love this way of life.

But let’s talk about the food 🍽️

Because a pool, trees and a lovely terrace are all very nice.

But if the food were bad, I wouldn’t recommend the place just because there’s water nearby. 😂

And Punto Caliente is a genuinely good surprise on the plate too.

It’s Spanish and Mediterranean cooking, with dishes far more refined than you might expect when you first see the place.

The presentation is careful.

The portions are generous.

And above all, there’s choice.

Depending on the menus and the day, you’ll find fish, meat, rice dishes, salads, tuna, carrillada (slow-braised pork cheeks), churrasco and all sorts of dishes that change regularly.

That’s exactly what I love about good Spanish set menus:

you don’t necessarily eat the same thing every time.

And here we come to something I adore about Spain:

the menú del día.

If you live here, you know it.

If you’re just on holiday, remember this one, because it can completely change the way you eat out in Spain.

The menu of the day often gets you a full meal for a very reasonable price.

At Punto Caliente, the set menus are one of the things the place is known for.

As I write this, you’ll find menus at around fifteen euros, depending on the day and the menu.

And mind you: we’re not talking about a rushed plate with three chips fighting a duel.

You can get several courses, for example something to share or a starter, a first course, a main, dessert and, depending on the menu, a drink or coffee.

Of course, menus and prices change.

So always check what they’re offering on the day you want to go.

But for value for money, it’s clearly one of the reasons the place is so popular.

And the rice dishes? 🍚

We’re in the Vega Baja.

So at some point we were bound to talk about rice. 😂

Punto Caliente also serves rice dishes, depending on the menus and the day.

And in this part of Alicante province, rice isn’t just “paella for tourists”.

There are loads of different rice dishes, and that’s exactly what I love discovering in more local restaurants.

If there’s a rice dish on the day you visit, give it serious consideration.

And above all, ask what’s available that day.

Fish, meat, tuna, carrillada… 🐟

What’s interesting about Punto Caliente is that you’re not stuck with one style of cooking.

There’s fish and seafood as well as meat.

Among the dishes customers regularly mention are tuna tartare, tuna tacos, carrillada, churrasco, solomillo (pork tenderloin), various fish dishes…

In short, there’s plenty to choose from.

Which is handy when you go as a group.

Because not everyone fancies the same thing.

Once again:

big families, groups of friends…

I see you. 😂

And they have a real link with Benejúzar’s own cooking 🥘

This is the kind of little detail I love finding out when I’m preparing an article.

Punto Caliente has taken part in Alicante Gastronómica, representing Benejúzar.

And the dish they showcased?

The “pelotas de Benejúzar”.

A local speciality.

And I think that says something about the restaurant.

Because this isn’t just a place set up to feed tourists or expats.

There’s a real connection with local food and with the Vega Baja.

And on Casa Costa, that’s exactly what I want to highlight.

Because living or holidaying here isn’t only about eating paella facing the sea.

You also need to head inland a little.

Discover the villages.

And taste what people really cook there.

With children? Yes. Yes. And yes again. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Restaurant.

Big outdoor space.

Pool.

I don’t think I need to draw you a picture. 😂

You have a relaxed lunch and then you can make a day of it.

And above all, it’s a change from the classic:

“Where shall we eat?”
“Dunno.”
“And what shall we do after?”
“Dunno.”

Here:

you eat.

You relax.

You have a swim.

Done.

And the setting, honestly… 🌳

That’s probably what gives Punto Caliente most of its personality.

You’re not in the middle of a tourist strip.

There aren’t ten souvenir shops around you.

You’re somewhere much calmer and greener, with the leisure area and the pool.

And it does you good.

Especially in summer.

Because the Costa Blanca isn’t just the coast.

As soon as you head a little inland, you find a different atmosphere.

Villages.

Mountains in the background.

Pine woods.

Picnic and leisure areas.

And restaurants like this one that you’d probably never have found if you’d stuck to the main tourist areas.

My verdict? 👩

Punto Caliente is one of the places I genuinely love.

Not just for the food.

For the whole package.

The setting.
The pool.
The atmosphere.
The fact that you can go as a family.
The value for money.
And above all that feeling of having a proper day out rather than just “going for lunch”.

It’s exactly the kind of place I’d recommend for a relaxed lunch, especially when the weather’s nice.

And in summer, with the pool open, the plan gets even better.

You come for lunch.

You relax.

You have a swim.

And you go home when you’ve decided the day is over.

Personally, that’s exactly my kind of plan. 😎

One thing though: book ⚠️

I really do recommend this.

Punto Caliente is well known locally and can get very busy.

Several people who know the place well give the same advice:

book.

Especially at weekends.

And even more so if there are lots of you.

Because turning up with eight people on a Sunday thinking:

“Ah, we’ll see…”

can be a great way to end up discovering the petrol station sandwich. 😂

So phone ahead.

And the pool? 💦

The pool is run by the town council and opens mainly in the summer season.

Entry is separate from your meal at the restaurant.

Recent information mentions a small entry fee, but as it’s a municipal facility and prices and opening periods can change, check the price and times when you visit.

And above all:

bring your swimming costume.

Because staring at a pool for two hours in 35 degrees because you forgot your cossie…

is a particularly cruel way to spend an afternoon. 😂

The final word ❤️

Punto Caliente is exactly the kind of place that explains why I love discovering the little corners around where we live.

Because if you stick to the main routes of the Costa Blanca, it’s easy to miss.

And yet…

in Benejúzar, a little off the beaten track, there’s this restaurant with its terrace, the pool right next door, its green surroundings and cooking that’s well worth the stop.

It’s not just:

“Let’s go to a restaurant.”

It’s more:

“Let’s have lunch at Punto Caliente and spend the afternoon there.”

And that difference matters. 😎

So my advice?

Book.

Take your time.

And in summer…

pop your swimming costume in the bag.

Because after dessert, when you see that pool right in front of you…
