Terra Mítica: the theme park that takes you from Egypt to Rome without leaving Benidorm

There is something gloriously absurd about parking behind Benidorm, walking through a gateway and coming face to face with a sphinx. Terra Mítica opened in July 2000 as a grand tour of the ancient Mediterranean: Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Iberian Peninsula and the islands, each with its own sets, rides and shows. Twenty-five years on, the park has had its ups, its downs and several lives, but it is still the Costa Blanca’s big thrill-seeker day out.

Five civilisations, five atmospheres

The park is laid out around a lake, and that is the best way to understand it: you walk the loop, one area after another.

• Egypt: the grand entrance, with giant columns, hieroglyphs, the Infinnito observation tower and the Cataratas del Nilo, which cool you down in one go. It is often the most photographed area first thing, while the light is still soft.
• Greece: the park’s adrenaline heart, with Titánide, Synkope and La Furia de Tritón, plus the Minotaur’s labyrinth and, in the evening, the Los Ícaros swing ride lit up above the water.
• Rome: the largest area, with circus façades, the Inferno roller coaster, the El Vuelo del Fénix drop tower and many of the street shows — gladiators included.
• Iberia: a smaller area with the Arietes and Jabato rides.
• Las Islas: the world of sailors and pirates, with La Cólera de Akiles and the Rápidos de Argos, very popular when the temperature soars.

Rides you shouldn’t miss

The official website lists around twenty attractions. For thrill-seekers, the must-dos are the Titánide inverted coaster, the giant Synkope pendulum, the Inferno coaster and the El Vuelo del Fénix drop tower. The water rides — La Furia de Tritón, the Rápidos de Argos, the Cataratas del Nilo (you rarely come off dry…) — are the perfect answer to an August afternoon.

Younger children have their own rides spread across every area. Before promising anything, check the minimum height requirements on site or on the official website: they are the number one cause of disappointment at the entrance to a ride.

Our tip: head straight for the big rides when the gates open and save the shows and shady spots for the hottest hours.

The shows: the park’s real bonus

What sets Terra Mítica apart from a simple row of rides is the entertainment: parades, gladiator fights, pirates, acrobats. The programme changes with the season, so take a photo of the timetable board at the entrance — it will shape your day better than anything else.

2026 prices and parking

Terra Mítica charges different prices in low and high season, and buying online is always cheaper than at the ticket office.

For a family of four with two children under 12, allow around €130 for online tickets in low season, plus parking and food. The afternoon ticket is a real bargain if you are staying in Benidorm: queues often shrink late in the day and summer evenings by the lake are lovely.

Our tips for a great day

1. Arrive at opening time. The first hours are the coolest and quietest.
2. Walk round the lake in one direction. Doubling back in full sun wears out legs (and patience).
3. Pack a change of clothes if you are going on the water rides, and a waterproof pouch for your phone.
4. Keep drinking water: in summer, the heat bouncing off the stone sets is fierce.
5. Stay until the end if you can: the illuminated sets are worth it.

Who is it for?

Honestly, Terra Mítica is at its best from around 7-8 years old, when children are tall enough for the big rides. With toddlers, the day still works but it will be more about watching: shows, sets and a few gentle rides. If your children prefer animals to loops, Terra Natura or Mundomar will suit them better; and when the heat really kicks in, Aqualandia naturally takes over.
